Where's My Tylenol?

A special thank you to every one who offered insight regarding blog design. One thing is clear. I need to learn about HTML codes. The mere notion makes my head hurt, but it seems that's the way of it if I want to progress to a more sophisticated looking blog, and ultimately website. *sigh*  Heh. Right now I just reminded myself of someone 20-30 years my senior who balks at learning how to use the Internet.  I remember the first time I had to use an ATM. I broke out in a sweat. Yes, I am that intimidated by technology. Sad.

Where was I? Oh, yes, HTML codes.  Last night Bob Farley emailed me a 'code' that would adjust my nifty avitar up top so that the blue header block wouldn't take up so much space. He gave me step-by-step instructions. So kind. Thank you! I would never have figured that out on my own. I'm not opposed to learning something new. It's the fact that this kind of thing does not come easy to me so that means intense study, trial and error... time.  I'm stubborn and selfish and want to commit my 'time' to writing and promotion. Mostly writing. I need more time in the day. Then again, every person who contributes to this blog regularly and probably most of the lurkers, needs more time in the day. Was it always like this I wonder? Did our parents and grandparents feel stressed and pressed for 'time'? They must have. Just in different ways. We have nifty electronic gadgets like vacums instead of brooms, washing machines instead of washing boards. Gadgets that make tasks easier, faster. Except as technology progresses you need to acquire certain knowledge to manipulate the latest gadgets.

Like HTML codes. *sigh*

What do you need to learn that's giving you a headache?

How about javascript? ;-) That is code ALSO used on web pages. ha! Though, I've given up learning it all. I know basic HTML type things... kept up with it for a couple of years... but now? Forget it... I have better things to do with my time. Ha!

Not sure what yet... but give a minute I'll figure it out.

I too am among the javascript(huh?)and HTML newbies. Although I have learned quite a bit while putzing around on my blog, trouble is I don't know what I have learned.

Basically I follow the copy and paste rule. Find something similar on the blog, then go to 'template' and copy all the letters around it. Then change the web addy till it does what I want.

I do a lot of preview checks to see if it's doing what it's saposed to. Most times I get the little box with a red 'x'. So I keep trying till I get it the way I want or I decide I don't really want it that way anyways.

Although I find those evil dialogue tags much more frustrating!

I have some work-related things that I have to learn that are giving me the desire to run outside...and keep running. But nothing drastic, really.

Glad the tag worked out for you. Most of the important HTML stuff is easy, as is JavaScript. I use JS a lot, mostly for navigation so that I don't have to change every page whenever I add a page, if you get my meaning. For the one percent in the world who don't use JS, I include one set of hard-coded links and one link on each page back to the index page. It's one of those modern conveniences that makes life easier for me...so I can sit around and think of more ways to use it.

Our IT guy just told me about NVU.com which offers a free program for web page design. I'm sure it doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles, but maybe it would be helpful? I've downloaded the program and today will begin to experiment for a work project. I could also go buy the book, "HTML Code for Dummies." I'm sure that book exists. :)

Code is definitely a problem for me too. About all I can do is the simple copy and paste stuff on MySpace.

Something else that gives me a headache-- geometry. Algebra 2. Trig. Blah.

*pressing my fingers to my twitching eye*
I cannot deal with html. Seriously. All those dang greater than and less than signs. And no, I don't have ANY idea the technical term. And backslashes. Dots here. Dots there. And some weird throwing together of consonants. *shuddering* God bless those who can.
I would love to learn it to tweak my website (a fill-in-the-blank type). But ya know...I'm just not sure.

I'd like to address the question about weather our parents or grandparents were as stressed as we are: No, I don't think so. I can remember the leisure times around the house as being very relaxed, stress free; there was laughter, thoughtful discussions, etc.

I think our problem today is that we have so many more choices with what to do with our "free" time than they did. Of course, we want to do it all! So, we try to squeeze as much as we can into keeping entertained that there is no time to take a breath between activities or to enjoy the silences that have all but disappeared. That's what I think! Well, excuse me - I have to get in a couple of
TV programs and a video games and watch that DVD I just bought, before I check the email and surf the web.

Javascript?! Do you WANT my head to explode, Bethany?

FeyRhi, you can conquer those dialogue tags. Seek them out in your favorite fiction novels. Study them. You can do it!!

Thanks again for the code, Bob. My header looks much better. But I dodn't know that I agree basic HTML stuff is easy. Not for this goober.

Stacie, I had myself transfered out of Algebra I! I can't imagine Algebra II or Trig. Headache or no, at least you're doing it. Go, Stacie!

Hiya, Crystal. Peas in a Pod, we are. So sad. LOL

Tori, you're a movie and tv fanatic. How can you suck at plotting? Sit closer to the TV. Maybe you'll absorb some plotting vibes. LOL
